no offense, but I just had to stop by and tell you that talian does really sound like taliban and that the background header kind of looks like Afghanistan ;)

July 12th, 2007 @12:08 pm

For Jez

Thanks for your comments! This is hilarious Jez, Talian may be called as Taliban :)

But i like to tell you I never ever thought about this similarity and I even dont know much about Talibans.

Actually I name my theme in the memory of sweet little girl Merry, daughter of our next door neighbor early 90’s . We use to call her Talia (Due to her Italian looks)

July 11nth is her memorial day, so I rename my theme to mark her present around us.

I also don’t know where abouts of her parents as I have shifted to another city, may be some one from her family will find this name and remember her. :)

Wow! What a nice theme. Thanks for giving it away.

I will use this theme for my weblog right away. At present very few designer are offering a good theme as freebies.

This is a great release.

This is a nice theme. I have it up on my site..but i have to ask..can I, a novice..change the picture to something else?

I have in mind a blog/theme content related picture..thats why I asked.

July 16th, 2007 @4:26 am

Hi Dusty,

Thanks for using my theme.

All you need to replace “someimage.gif” with your image. The standard width of image should be 480 only.

Next you need to do a small modification in CSS Class, put-image-here :) Below is the example:

#put-image-here {

float: left;

height: 120px;

width: 480px;

background-image: url(images/someimage.gif); (Just replace this with your image name)

background-repeat: no-repeat;

border-bottom-width: 3px;

border-bottom-style: solid;

border-bottom-color: #D8D8D8;

}

Talian is a perfect theme for small business. 3 col looks bit busy, still it presents a very much professional look. Great theme.

July 27th, 2007 @12:24 am

I too would like to know how to change the color schematics – the green & orange… I like it, but it doesn’t go with my header.

July 31st, 2007 @5:47 pm

I am using the Google Maps plugin by http://avi.alkalay.net/2006/11/google-maps-plugin-for-wordpress.html
works nicely. Apparently the theme’s CSS has a conflict with the Google plugin (markers just show up as grey boxes). Any known workaround?

August 1st, 2007 @9:12 pm

I love the look and feel of this theme… but sadly, the “blogroll” simply dumps all my links in together, ignoring my carefully-defined categories! Is there any way I can correct this, or do I just need to look elsewhere for a theme? Thanks!

Hi Steve,
I love the theme, I am using it for a business site. Seems you have thougth of everything. I was going to ask how to change the image header, but you have already answered that.

I do have one other question. Where is the picture you use from? If you know. Looks more like the Alps then Afghanistan. :-)

Blessings,
JC

Hi Steve,
Just wanted to say thanks for the theme.
I had to make it fit the design of the rest of my site — so I must confess that after I modified it a lot it doesn’t look much like the original (but I kept the links back to your site).

As a WordPress newbie I mainly wanted to see how a three column theme can be implemented.

Against some others’ opinions I would say that a 3-col theme doesn’t necessarily appear too busy to look at: for my site I reduced the sidebar widths a bit so that long articles could be in a wider middle column.

As a php newbie I was glad I could see at once the places where adsense code could be included in the templates.

To me, the name Talian reminded me of Italian or italics.

I found your css a bit hard to understand — especially about widths/margins/padding but my friend (better at css than I am) had it sorted out pretty quickly.

Anyway, thanks again.

One problem though.
When viewing using IE6 the right hand navigation bar is out of place. It looks good in IE7 and IE6

I notice your site looks fine. Can you help?

isadub Said,

I’ve been looking for a new theme for awhile now and I really like your Talian theme.

But…it doesn’t seem to handle italics (em) very well. See here for an example
http://isadub.com/blog/2007/08/18/new-wordpress-theme-talian/

P.S. I’ve already altered your theme a little bit but the italic’s problem was there before I altered anything.

God I love this theme – it is amazing. Thank you sooo much. Quick question…

When you view a specific page you get a “The webpage cannot be found” at the bottom just above the leave comment bit. It is happening on your site too – any thoughts.

Hi, I too love the theme, but need different colors. How exactly do we change the orange, green, and black?

September 12th, 2007 @11:27 am

I love this theme, it looks so good. One problem I’m having though is with a small bit of javascript from Feedburner that adds bookmarking links at the top of your posts. It was working fine for me when I was using the default permalink structure (like this: http://www.thailandmusings.com/?p=123), however when I changed the permalink structure to date and name based (like this: http://www.thailandmusings.com/2007/09/12/sample-post/) the bookmarking links disappeared. Any idea how I can get them to show up again? The javascript code gets inserted right before this line:
“>

Thanks again for the great theme and thanks in advance for the help.

September 12th, 2007 @11:30 am

Hmmm…alternatively could you just tell me how you added this part to your site “Share This Post with Following Networks. :) Enjoy!:”

Does it add that to each page? That would work splendidly!

How can I change the widgets to have rounded corners or make it more attractive.

Thanks so much for an awesome FREE theme!

I just have few questions for you for our kaleodotinfo site. How do you change the color of a title in a widget that has an RSS feed in it (which is a link instead of just text)? The default unvisited link color is blue and my background title is green so it doesn’t show up very well. I would like to change the color to light grey. I couldn’t find the reference in the style.css.

Also, I am having a problem with the month name not showing up in my event calendar of kaleodotinfo. It shows a black title on a black background. :O(

How can I change your comments icon to just text and how can I remove all the extra space between postings? I would like to show more articles without having people scroll down if possible.

I would like to have a page appear on left side menu in pages but not as page link in the header. How do I prevent a page from appearing on the top but not in the left sidebar?

Thanks so much for your time!!

Aloha,

Christian

Love the theme. I am putting it in my new site. I translated the them to Spanish. I just have one problem: in IE6, the site gets all screw when I scroll down the page, and gets back to normal when I minimize and maximize the window. It does not happen to me browsing your sites with the talian theme. I try different computers with IE6 and the text and images gets screw when I scroll down. I might have an error in my editing but I cant seem to find it, any suggestions?

October 22nd, 2007 @6:51 am

Hi Frank,

You are using a redirection service using frameset. I suggest you to use 301 permanent redirect, which is better for SE’s. If you need SE friendly redirect codes, I will mail you the same.

The translation service is from Google, which is within a frame too. This is why it is not working properly. :)

best wishes.
steve.

Much thanx for the nice theme before saying any thing.

Problem with Adsense+Theme(some adsense codes in comments.php)

I just implemented in my client’s blog -adsense using your theme
Blog: http://sharemarketslive.info/

But saw many problems like sidebar adsense ad(left sidebar)not showing ads when a single post page is opened and has 1 other ads.(max 3 ads rule is followed)

So did read entire theme there are some adsense codes pre-built to comments.php file of your theme which has no use also those did not display. And when i deleted these codes of adsense from comments.php above problem was solved b’coz as we know comments.php content is called with in single post page. Also i don’t know the place from where i downloaded your theme b’coz i did not download using above link (in posts) but some theme sites.

Anyways now it’s solved///nice theme..great

Steve- I truly love your Talian theme! The local photo I’m using in the header doesn’t have enough color to make it pop but I have a new camera and hopefully will have a suitable local landscape up there soon.

Is there some way I can correct the “italics”? The em tag causes the word or phrase to be placed on a separate line by itself.

Thank you for allowing the use of Talian. I hope I do it justice!

Hi Steve,
I, too, have problems using italics in this theme. Do you have a fix for it?

The other problem I have is that sub-categories do display under the disignated parent category All the categories diplay as first tier. Is there a way to correc this?

Obviously, I love your them or I wouldn’t have chosen it! Thanks in advance, Mary

Your theme looks lovely but no content is displayed on my page. Perhaps because I use certain plug ins which the theme may not be compatible with? It’s only thing I can think of, other than files may be corrupted.

If you have any solution please let me know by e-mail because I’m looking for wordpress themes.

What a beautiful theme. I love it.
.
I have a question about the Blogroll widget. I am not able to change the name of the title through the normal Manage–Categories settings as I have on other themes.
.

But when I leave the the default setup for widgets in place, I can change the Title of “Blogroll” only by going into theme editor and changing the H3 name from Blogroll to my new title.
.
But if I customize the sidebar with my own widget settings / layout by dragging widget choices into the field in Presentation — Widgets .. and click save. Strangely enough, the Blogroll Title will not change. Isn’t that odd?

..

Can you tell me where I would make changes to the title “Blogroll”? not just in manage -categories, but in the actual set up for Widget?
Making changes to the left_sidebar.php only works if you use the default sidebar widget settings.
.
Thanks so much, if you can help solve this mystery!

Hi Steve,

Your template is lovely. Thank you for putting it together.

I have also run into the “The Webpage cannot be found” issue when testing my site on IE7. The error message, which doesn’t happen in either Opera or Firefox, appears on a comment page just above the text input area.

Is there a work around for this?

Thank you again.

February 12th, 2008 @2:53 am

Hi, Steve, I love this template! I am having some minor issues much like others described above, but I can live with things for a bit until you have time to answer.

The EM/italics tag still adds an extra line break. Can you please fix that? Why is it happening? I have to use the old i-tag to get italics to behave properly.

How do I either widen the center column, or move the sidebars farther apart so the center content has room to expand? I routinely use images that are 500px wide and add drop-shadows via CSS, so the center content needs to be about 510px at a minimum. If I don’t hear back, I’ll make backup textfiles and play with the stylesheet, but it would be nice to be pointed in the right direction.

How do I edit the Social Network widget? I thought I had it sussed by changing it in the Sidebar.php file, but it doesn’t update, even if I move it in and out via the Widgets page. Do I need to mess with another DIV for the right side?

I figured out how to change the default image as you described above, in all the different templates, to pull in a Flickr badge with complementary borders and background. It should also be possible to get an image rotator script working for that same area. If anyone wants to swipe the CSS for their own Flickr badge, remember to change the username, or my pictures will appear on your site. :)

I also figured out why some of my home-made text based widgets were flowing outside of the sidebars; their content has to be wrapped in a special DIV with the ID of either left-sidebars or right-sidebars. However, if there’s a better CSS class to use that invokes the background color… please let me know.

How do I edit the Meta for feeds?? I need to change it to point to Feedburner.

Sorry for all the questions. But I really do like the way my blog looks in Talian.

oettinfr Said,
February 12th, 2008 @6:29 pm

Hi Steve,

same question for me: How can I widen the middle column? Is it possible to use percentages rather than pixels?
thanks

ginny Said,
February 23rd, 2008 @7:24 pm

I was able to widen the wrapper/container/content etc. by editing the CSS file. The left and right content containers also had to be widened to total the content width. The posts are now wide enough to accomodate 500px images that I often use from Flickr.

Also, I fixed the problem of the em or italics tag adding unwanted line breaks. There are clear: both; and display: block; declarations that probably don’t need to be there, and when I removed them and darkened the font color, it behaves as expected.

I posted the code here.

For those who get the “page can’t be displayed” error in IE this may help:

In the Comments section in the theme editor there are two sections that have Google Adsense code already in there. For some reason Firefox ignores this but IE wants it to be something.

I deleted all the code related to the Adsense stuff (presumably you can add it in later if you use Adsense and enter the correct info) and now all seems to be fine.

Hi,
I also love the theme and am running into an issue with aWeber forms.

When I place form in a sidebar, either left or right, it pushes the actual form to the top of the space to the immediate right, just below the header.

I’d much appreciate your help

Francis Said,
April 6th, 2008 @5:08 pm

OK — I have been playing with what Ginny said and she’s onto something.

I put my widget in the following:

text
widget stuff deleted

And this worked:
– but only on the left side, not the right
– putting it on the right caused the left column to place itself under the right column
– but only with actual text showing that cannot be removed where I have the word text

Nothing I tried could get the left column to reappear in its rightful place.

So, I left my widget in the left column… and am hoping that a proper fix comes along soon!

Francis Said,
